Helping Young People Understand Their History & Process Trauma
Trauma Processing
Are you supporting a care experienced young person?
Did you know the five approaches can help parents, carers and professionals use Life Story Work to help young people understand their past and process trauma? Find out more below....
The five approaches are five defined methods of Life Story Work that can be used to support care experienced young people. Their aim is to create a common understanding within Life Story Work practice for parents, carers, practitioners and stakeholders. This common understanding can help ensure the right support is provided to young people at the right time and that there is consistency across research, training and practice.
You can find out more about the research, literature and practice underpinnings that contributed to the approaches in the paper published in the British Journal of Social Work.
The approaches are designed to be used by foster carers, special guardians, adoptive parents, practitioners or therapists at different points within the young persons journey through care to support their emotional wellbeing and mental health, and help them understand and process past experiences or trauma.
